Study Abroad Scholarships

Most students aspire to receive a scholarship to study abroad – especially a full scholarship. However, such “ideal” scholarships are rare and often come with various constraints, ranging from academic majors and commitment periods to post-graduation employment obligations. Many students have declined or withdrawn from full scholarship programs due to limitations that do not align with their personal goals.

A scholarship is more than just financial aid – it’s also a strategic choice. It is important for you to understand the type of scholarship you are pursuing and evaluate its suitability based on your abilities and long-term goals.

Common Types of Scholarships:

  • Scholarship: These are limited in number and awarded based on academic achievements, personal profiles, essays, etc. This is the most competitive type of scholarship;
  • Grant: This is financial assistance provided by the school or faculty that does not require a separate application from students;
  • Bursary / Financial Aid: These are intended for students facing financial hardship, who need to clearly state their reasons when applying.

EduMatch supports students to apply for all 3 types of scholarships.

Some typical scholarship programs

  • In Vietnam: Scholarships 89, 165, scholarships from localities, ministries, state organizations;
  • In the UK: Chevening, Great Scholarships, international development scholarships, and scholarships offered by universities;
  • In Australia: Endeavour Scholarships, government scholarships;

Scholarship Criteria:

  • Academic ability: The most important factor. The higher the GPA, the greater the opportunity;
  • English proficiency: IELTS/PTE/TOEFL… are mandatory requirements with specific score requirements for each scholarship type;
  • Early application: Early application is prioritized – especially when the number of scholarships is limited;
  • Special Criteria: Some scholarships require excellent essay, significant social achievements, artistic or athletic talent, or demonstrated leadership skills.

Scholarship application:

  • Latest school reports and transcripts
  • Highest Diploma/ Degree
  • English language proficiency certificates (IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, etc.)
  • Passport (page with photo and signature)
  • Extracurricular activities, academic achievements
  • For Master’s and Ph.D. applicants, you will also need to include: a CV/résumé, a Personal Statement, and 2 letters of recommendation.

Student Capacity & Attainable Scholarship Level

50% of tuition fees ≥ 95 ≥ 6.5
30% of tuition fees ≥ 85 ≥ 6.5
